Conkle's Hollow

he writes "Winter easy. Bloom early. " he writes

"Give that tusked rapscallion the brush-off
or the cold shoulder or the hot tongue and come see us."

who could resist?

another sign of a good day

there is a mortar and pestle in the small pile
of dirty dishes next to my sink

even if I didn't get most of it done, I did take a good note

I retconned him into this world
and I can retcon him out.

several recent dreams

  1. I was a part of a family who, for reasons that were not clear, packed up a couple of pieces of clothing each, a couple of practical things (involving cooking) and one particularly beautiful side table. We did this all in secret - planned to set fire to the house and slip away.

  1. Replacing the cuffs on my favorite sweatshirt. It started off by watching my hands using my seam ripper to remove the frayed ones.

  1. I was swimming in the air above a shark. It is much harder to tread air.

so

I can't clean my kitchen (and it is trashed) because the first thing to do is empty the dishwasher and when I went to do that a few hours ago (I love to do it early in the morning) there was a dead mouse on the bottom of the dishwasher and to be honest, I am tired of being in charge of all the stuff (was hoping to have the most unpleasant thing today being to dismantle my bathroom sink drain) and I'm just not prepared to deal with a corpse (though I've done it enough that I am shaking the irrational terror that it will reanimate and somehow kill me).

this morning unexpectedly
a pattern drawn on my bathroom counter
decided to reserve freaking out
about what might have done it
(not even going to consider
if it might mean something)
but those thoughts are going to catch up
with me sooner or later

dystopian dream

half naked
lost on a dirty city street
picked clothes from a trash can
thought I'd found shelter -
brief respite before I started
to travel again but rats
killed the canine companion
and I could not sleep

ah co-workers

I think the banana is begging
to be baked into muffins

she leans close to it, begins to sing
the chiquita banana song and

we dance and laugh

no none knows

I killed a possum
with my car
the other night

(and was far too exhausted to be very upset)

my yak poem - where's yours?

from a farmer in upper Nepal to his yak

mysterious beast
your wild cousins run
rapidly into extinction
while you plod these
difficult slopes and
I sleep on the skin
of your father
